“The arts are one humanity’s most sustaining endeavors.”
The Sustainable Symphony musicians are a group with great diversity in terms of age and experience – the common bond being the desire to perform at the highest level while having a great experience. Therefore, there is a pool of musicians that participate in the concerts rather than “regular” members. Formed last spring, the Sustainable Symphony is the Valley's newest orchestra. It is comprised of ASU students, alumni and local musicians.
At our concerts, we play only the best music ever written for orchestra. Whether old or new, our goal is to perform music that is relevant to today. While the program notes for many orchestras will now include the word “obscure,” our program notes will never use anything close. You’re much more likely to find words like “exciting, climatic, and triumphant.”
Many people today see the orchestra as a stodgy, old-fashioned group of performers.
That’s not the case with us. We want to get people excited about classical music, and we
do so by being a dynamic group. We are literally tearing down the barriers between the audience and the ensemble, in order to make the concert experience as fresh and invigorating as possible.
